SEIKO 5 Sports SNXS Sports Style SBSA257 Automatic Men’s Watch
The SEIKO 5 Sports SBSA257 is a Japanese Domestic Market model from the SNXS series. Developed around the EDC, or Everyday Carry, concept, it updates the familiar SNXS sports-watch design with a compact stainless-steel case, an ivory dial, an orange seconds hand and a modern automatic movement.
Ivory Dial with a 1970s-Inspired Accent
The sporty ivory dial is distinguished by an orange seconds hand, a color accent used on numerous SEIKO 5 Sports watches during the 1970s. Its strong contrast with the hour and minute hands gives the watch a recognizable vintage-influenced appearance.
Eleven applied bar indexes feature faceted surfaces that reflect the light from different angles. The hour and minute hands have precisely shaped upper surfaces, while LumiBrite on the hands and indexes supports visibility in low-light conditions. A practical day and date display is positioned at 3 o’clock.
Compact SNXS Case Design
The SBSA257 retains the flowing case profile associated with the original SNXS design. Its rounded central form was nicknamed “hebitama” by SEIKO’s development team, while the crown is positioned at approximately 4 o’clock so that it does not interrupt the case silhouette.
The lugs curve downward toward the wrist for a comfortable fit. Brushed and mirror-polished surfaces create visual contrast across the stainless-steel case. The official Japanese dimensions are 12.5 mm in thickness, 37.4 mm in width and 44.7 mm in length.
Caliber 4R36 Automatic Movement
The watch is powered by SEIKO Caliber 4R36, a mechanical automatic movement that can also be wound manually. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, uses 24 jewels and provides approximately 41 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
Caliber 4R36 includes a stop-seconds function for precise time setting and a calendar displaying both the day and date. The domestic SBSA257 uses a bilingual day display with Japanese and English indications. Its specified accuracy is +45 to −35 seconds per day when worn on the wrist within the normal temperature range of 5°C to 35°C.
Curved Hardlex and Stainless-Steel Bracelet
A curved Hardlex crystal complements the rounded profile of the case. The back combines stainless steel and glass, with a see-through screw construction that provides a view of the mechanical movement.
The newly developed stainless-steel bracelet uses rounded, dimensional links designed to create distinctive highlights and shadows. It is secured by a three-fold clasp with a push-button release. The watch weighs approximately 125 g and accommodates wrists up to approximately 205 mm in circumference.
