Handcrafted Black Urushi Lacquer Dial
The dial is created using urushi, a durable natural lacquer traditionally applied to Japanese vessels, decorative objects and everyday utensils. The Craftsmanship Series combines an innovative method that bonds lacquer directly to metal with traditional techniques used to produce a smooth, lustrous surface.
Under the supervision of lacquer artist Isshu Tamura, skilled craftspeople repeatedly apply and polish the lacquer to create its characteristic depth and gloss. Because each dial is finished by hand, subtle variations in color and minute surface characteristics are natural features of the lacquer work.
Kanazawa-Inspired Black and Gold Design
The deep black lacquer dial is complemented by subdued gold-colored details on the GMT hand and the 24-hour scale around the outer edge of the indexes. This black-and-gold composition expresses the elegant character of Kanazawa lacquerware.
The extended GMT hand has a brush-like profile and reaches toward the outer edge of the dial. White three-dimensional bar indexes and hour and minute hands provide contrast against the black lacquer, while the mirror-finished seconds hand adds a refined metallic accent.
Automatic GMT Caliber 6R54
Caliber 6R54 is a mechanical automatic movement that also supports manual winding. It provides an approximately 72-hour power reserve when fully wound, allowing the watch to continue operating for about three days. The 24-hour hand supports dual-time display, while the stop-seconds function assists with precise time setting.
The movement operates with a stated accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day and uses 24 jewels. A date display adds practical everyday functionality.
Stainless-Steel Case and Sapphire Crystal
The stainless-steel case is protected by Seiko's Diamond Shield surface treatment. It measures 40.2 mm in diameter, 48.0 mm from lug to lug and 12.4 mm in thickness. A dual-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface protects the dial while maintaining a clear view of its lacquer finish.
The see-through screw case back incorporates sapphire glass, revealing the mechanical movement. The watch offers 10-bar water resistance and magnetic resistance rated at 4,800 A/m.
Leather Strap from an LWG-Certified Tannery
The black cow-leather strap is produced by a tannery certified by the Leather Working Group, an organization that promotes responsible and sustainable leather production. It is secured by a three-fold clasp with push-button release and accommodates wrists up to 195 mm.
