About Kinrin

Kinrin is a popular Kyoto-grown Uji Matcha characterized by a distinctive harmony of freshness, mellow flavor, richness, and a smooth finish.

Its balanced depth makes it suitable for both Koicha and Usucha. When prepared as Koicha, its rich body and mellow character become more pronounced. As Usucha, it offers a smooth and refreshing bowl with a clean finish.

This finely milled Green Tea Powder is suitable for traditional tea preparation, home enjoyment, and tea practice.

Flavor Profile

Kinrin combines freshness, mellow richness, and a smooth finish. Its balanced profile offers enough depth for Koicha while remaining approachable when prepared as Usucha.

  • Fresh and distinctive aroma
  • Mellow, rounded character
  • Rich and well-balanced body
  • Smooth mouthfeel
  • Clean, refreshing finish

Recommended Uses

  • Traditional Koicha preparation
  • Traditional Usucha preparation
  • Tea ceremony lessons and practice
  • Refined everyday matcha
  • Serving with Japanese wagashi
  • Serving with Western-style confectionery

Preparation Instructions – Koicha

  • Sift approximately 4–5g of matcha into a tea bowl.
  • Add approximately 30–50ml of hot water.
  • Add the water gradually rather than all at once.
  • Use the chasen to knead the matcha slowly into a thick, smooth consistency.
  • Adjust the amount of water according to the desired thickness.

Preparation Instructions – Usucha

  • Sift approximately 1.5g of matcha into a tea bowl.
  • Add approximately 70ml of hot water.
  • Use water at approximately 75–85°C in winter or 70–80°C in summer.
  • First stir slowly to disperse the matcha evenly.
  • Whisk briskly with a chasen until a fine layer of foam forms.
  • Lift the whisk gently from the center to finish.

Preparation Tips

  • Sift the matcha immediately before preparation to reduce clumps.
  • Use freshly boiled soft water and allow it to cool before use.
  • Preheat the tea bowl and soften the chasen in warm water.
  • For Koicha, knead the matcha slowly instead of whisking it into foam.
  • For Usucha, whisk with quick forward-and-back movements.
  • Adjust the amount of matcha, water, and temperature according to preference.

Enjoy with Confectionery

Kinrin’s mellow richness and smooth finish complement traditional Japanese wagashi and Western-style confectionery.

Enjoy it alongside mochi, yokan, nerikiri, cakes, cookies, or other sweets. Its balanced depth helps create a refined pairing without overwhelming the confectionery.
