About Unkaku
Unkaku is a premium Kyoto-grown Uji Matcha from Marukyu Koyamaen, characterized by its sweet aroma, rich flavor, mellow depth, and exceptionally soft finish.
Its refined balance makes it suitable for both Koicha and Usucha. When prepared slightly stronger, Unkaku reveals a full-bodied and elegant character with pronounced sweetness and richness. When prepared as Usucha, it offers a smooth, rounded bowl with a clean and sophisticated finish.

Preparation Instructions – Koicha
- Sift approximately 4–5g of matcha into a tea bowl.
- Add approximately 30–50ml of hot water.
- Add the water gradually rather than all at once.
- Use the chasen to knead the matcha slowly into a thick, smooth consistency.
- Adjust the amount of water according to the desired thickness.
Preparation Instructions – Usucha
- Sift approximately 1.5g of matcha into a tea bowl.
- Add approximately 70ml of hot water.
- Use water at approximately 75–85°C in winter or 70–80°C in summer.
- First stir slowly to disperse the matcha evenly.
- Whisk briskly with a chasen until a fine layer of foam forms.
- Lift the whisk gently from the center to finish.
Preparation Tips
- Sift the matcha immediately before preparation to reduce clumps.
- Use freshly boiled soft water and allow it to cool before use.
- Preheat the tea bowl and soften the chasen in warm water.
- For Koicha, knead the matcha slowly instead of whisking it into foam.
- For Usucha, whisk with quick forward-and-back movements.
- Prepare Unkaku slightly stronger to highlight its rich and elegant character.
- Adjust the amount of matcha, water, and temperature according to preference.
