SEIKO PROSPEX 1965 Heritage SBDC199 100th Anniversary Special Edition
The SEIKO PROSPEX SBDC199 is a commemorative version of the Mechanical Diver’s 1965 Heritage, created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the SEIKO brand. Its charcoal-gray dial and matching bezel are accented with gold-colored details that represent the achievements made under the SEIKO name since it first appeared on a wristwatch in 1924.
This Japanese domestic reference combines its anniversary design with the mechanical Caliber 6R55, an approximately 72-hour power reserve and professional 300 m air-diving water resistance. It is offered in Japan through SEIKO Global Brand Core Shops and corresponds to the international SPB455J1 reference.

A Special Edition Celebrating 100 Years of the SEIKO Brand
SEIKO introduced its first wristwatch bearing the SEIKO name in 1924. The SBDC199 commemorates the brand’s centennial with a charcoal-gray dial and bezel complemented by gold-colored hands, dial details and bezel markings. The gold accents symbolize the many advances in watchmaking achieved under the SEIKO name during its first century.
The SBDC199 is officially designated a Special Edition. No numbered production quantity was announced, so it should not be presented as an individually numbered limited edition.
1965 Heritage Diver’s-Watch Design
The case design traces its origins to Seiko’s landmark 1965 diver’s watch. While preserving the restrained appearance of the historic model, the modern SBDC199 provides upgraded specifications and a more compact profile than the preceding generation of the 1965-inspired mechanical diver.
The date window is positioned between four and five o’clock. This layout allows luminous markers to remain at all twelve hour positions, creating a more symmetrical dial while supporting visibility in dark environments.
Three-Day Mechanical Caliber 6R55
The watch is powered by SEIKO Caliber 6R55, an in-house mechanical movement with automatic winding and a manual-winding mechanism. When fully wound, it provides an approximately 72-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to continue running for about three days.
Caliber 6R55 operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, uses 24 jewels and includes a date display and stop-seconds function. Its stated accuracy is +25 to −15 seconds per day when worn on the wrist within the specified temperature range.
300 m Air-Diving Water Resistance
The SBDC199 is rated for 300 m air-diving water resistance. Its professional diving features include a unidirectional rotating bezel, screw-down crown and screw case back. The stainless-steel bezel incorporates an aluminum insert with a precisely finished diving scale.
LumiBrite is applied to the hands, hour markers and bezel for visibility in low-light conditions. The watch also provides magnetic resistance rated at 4,800 A/m.
Compact Case and Stainless-Steel Bracelet
The stainless-steel case measures 40.0 mm in diameter, 46.4 mm from lug to lug and 13.0 mm in thickness. The case and stainless-steel bracelet feature SEIKO’s DiaShield surface treatment, developed to help protect their appearance against everyday scratches.
The bracelet uses short-pitch links designed to follow the curve of the wrist. Its push-button three-fold clasp incorporates a secure double-lock construction and a diver’s extension mechanism. The distance between the lugs is 20 mm, and the bracelet accommodates wrists up to approximately 195 mm.
Additional Seichu-Style Fabric Strap
An additional fabric strap is included as a special anniversary feature. It is made entirely from recycled plastic-bottle material and woven using a traditional Japanese braiding technique known as Seichu. The resulting strap combines a richly textured appearance with flexibility, breathability and the durability required for a SEIKO diver’s watch.
