The SEIKO 5 Sports SBSC001 introduces mechanical GMT functionality to an SKX-inspired Sports Style design. Developed for the Japanese domestic market, this black-dial model combines a two-tone rotating 24-hour bezel, a contrasting red GMT hand and a classic five-row stainless-steel bracelet.
SKX-Inspired Sports Design
The case and dial draw inspiration from the sports-watch design widely associated with the SEIKO SKX family. The black dial provides a strong background for the luminous hands and indexes, while the red 24-hour hand remains clearly distinguishable from the primary time display.
The two-tone rotating bezel separates daytime and nighttime hours for easier 24-hour reference. Its indicator ring is made from Hardlex glass and features a vapor-deposited metallic finish that changes in appearance according to the viewing angle and surrounding light.
LumiBrite is applied to the hands and hour indexes, including the tip of the GMT hand, to support visibility in low-light conditions. A magnifying lens positioned above the date window at 3 o’clock enlarges the calendar display for easier reading.
Mechanical GMT Caliber 4R34
The SBSC001 is powered by SEIKO’s Caliber 4R34 mechanical movement. It winds automatically through wrist movement and can also be wound manually. When fully wound, the movement provides an approximate power reserve of 41 hours.
The central 24-hour hand can display the time in a second time zone. Used together with the rotating 24-hour bezel, it provides a practical way to monitor time in another region. The movement also includes a date display and a stop-seconds function for more precise time setting.
Caliber 4R34 operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and contains 24 jewels. Its stated accuracy is +45 to -35 seconds per day when worn on the wrist at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C. Actual performance may vary according to temperature, wearing conditions, activity and the winding condition of the mainspring.
Stainless-Steel Case and Bracelet
The stainless-steel case measures 46.0 mm in length, 42.5 mm in width and 13.6 mm in thickness. A magnified Hardlex crystal protects the dial, while the see-through screw case-back provides a view of the mechanical movement.
The five-row stainless-steel bracelet is inspired by the bracelet design associated with the original SKX series. Its short link sections are designed to follow the wrist, while polished center sections contrast with the surrounding links. The bracelet is secured by a push-button three-fold clasp with a secure-lock mechanism.
Practical Everyday Performance
The SBSC001 provides enhanced water resistance for daily use at 10 bar and is magnetically resistant. Its rotating 24-hour bezel, luminous display, enlarged date window and mechanical GMT function support practical everyday timekeeping. Although its design is derived from the SKX sports-watch family, this model is not officially designated as a diver’s watch.

SBSC001 is the Japanese-market reference for this black SEIKO 5 Sports GMT configuration. The corresponding overseas-market reference is SSK001. The Japanese model was released on July 8, 2022, as a regular-production model rather than a limited edition.
