The SEIKO Presage SARY187 is a Japanese Domestic Market mechanical watch from the Japanese Garden series. Its deep navy blue dial combines a three-dimensional sand-pattern design with an open-heart aperture, expressing the quiet beauty and carefully composed character of a traditional Japanese garden.
Pink-gold-coloured hands and hour markers create a warm contrast against the navy dial, while a matching navy blue leather strap completes the refined colour scheme. The watch is powered by SEIKO’s automatic Calibre 4R39 and features a 24-hour indicator, dual-curved sapphire crystal and see-through screw case back.
Japanese Garden Sand-Pattern Dial
The dial features a regular three-dimensional pattern inspired by the carefully raked sand found in Japanese gardens. Alternating raised and recessed lines create subtle shadows across the navy blue surface, allowing the dial’s appearance to change with the angle of the light.
Pink-gold-coloured hands and applied hour markers provide an elegant contrast against the deep blue dial. The combination evokes a warm evening glow within a serene garden setting while maintaining a balanced and classical appearance.
Open-Heart Display
An open-heart aperture reveals part of the mechanical movement beneath the dial, allowing the balance mechanism to be viewed while the watch is running. The asymmetrical opening adds visual depth without obscuring the Japanese Garden-inspired dial pattern.
A separate 24-hour indicator complements the open-heart display and provides an additional mechanical detail. It indicates the current time on a 24-hour scale and is not an independently adjustable second-time-zone display.
Calibre 4R39 Automatic Movement
The SARY187 is powered by SEIKO’s Calibre 4R39 mechanical movement. It winds automatically through the motion of the wrist and can also be wound manually through the crown.
The 24-jewel movement provides a power reserve of approximately 41 hours when fully wound. Its stated accuracy is +45 to −35 seconds per day, and the stop-seconds function allows the seconds hand to be stopped when setting the time.
Stainless-Steel Case and Sapphire Crystal
The polished stainless-steel case measures 41.8mm in diameter, 48.4mm from lug to lug and 12.5mm in thickness. Its rounded profile and slender lugs complement the flowing lines of the Japanese Garden dial design.
A dual-curved sapphire crystal provides a clear view of the dial while reinforcing the watch’s softly contoured appearance. Sapphire is highly resistant to scratches encountered during normal wear.
Navy Blue Leather Strap
The navy blue cow-leather strap coordinates with the dial and gives the watch a cohesive, understated appearance. A push-button three-fold clasp offers secure fastening while reducing the repeated bending normally associated with a conventional pin buckle.
The distance between the lugs is 20mm, and the supplied strap accommodates a wrist circumference of up to approximately 205mm.
See-Through Screw Case Back
The see-through screw case back allows the movement and winding rotor to be viewed from the reverse side of the watch. This mechanical detail complements the open-heart aperture on the dial and highlights the character of the automatic movement.
