The SEIKO PROSPEX SPEEDTIMER HBJ004P is a Japan-market solar chronograph inspired by the design heritage of the original Speedtimer and SEIKO racing chronographs from the 1960s and 1970s. Its bright-yellow dial, black subdials and blue-red tachymeter bezel create an iconic colour combination reminiscent of the vintage watch widely known among collectors as the “Pogue.”
Original Speedtimer-Inspired Design
The streamlined case profile and chronograph layout inherit design elements associated with SEIKO’s historic Speedtimer watches. The 41.4 mm stainless-steel case provides a classically proportioned appearance while retaining the practicality of a modern solar chronograph.
Pogue-Inspired Colourway
The vivid yellow dial is combined with black subdials and a blue-red aluminium tachymeter bezel. This distinctive combination recalls the yellow-dial SEIKO 6139 associated with astronaut William Pogue, although “Pogue” is an enthusiast nickname and is not part of the official HBJ004P model name.
Calibre V192 Solar Chronograph
The watch is powered by SEIKO Calibre V192, a solar quartz movement that converts light into electrical energy. After a full charge, it can operate for approximately six months and has an average accuracy of ±15 seconds per month.
1/5-Second Stopwatch
The chronograph measures elapsed time in 1/5-second increments for up to 60 minutes. A central chronograph seconds hand and the minute counter at 6 o’clock use coordinated colours, making elapsed-time information easier to identify.
Tachymeter Bezel
The blue-red aluminium bezel insert features a tachymeter scale for calculating average speed over a known distance. Its two-colour design reinforces the vintage racing character of the watch.
Curved Sapphire Crystal
A curved sapphire crystal protects the dial and provides excellent scratch resistance. An anti-reflective coating applied to the inner surface reduces distracting reflections and improves visibility.
LumiBrite Visibility
LumiBrite is applied to the hands and twelve wide hour indexes to support clear time reading in dark conditions. The high-contrast yellow-and-black dial layout also improves daytime visibility.
Stainless-Steel Bracelet
The stainless-steel bracelet is shaped from the lugs toward the clasp to create a balanced and refined appearance. It uses a push-button three-fold clasp and a C-ring adjustment system.
